We are from an old Kotagede family - Kotagede
is one of renowned silver centers in Indonesia - but we are among the first
to go on search for a renewal in the art of making silverware and jewelry.

The Salim family is by tradition
engaged in renewal and design. Today, Salim sons create their own unique
design. Salim firm has created his own catalogue of silver jewelry. However,
exclusive designs from customers are also accepted for meticulous realization
by our expert hands, the firm guarantees the customer's copyrights.

| Before the Second World War, repousse silver
was very much in fashion, but as time change the repousse technique is now
a day's rarety in the Kotagede workshops. |

| The Salim sons being much the young generation,
rediscovered this technique and they are actually trying to develop this
"embossing" method. Many of their new silver creations are of
the embossed type. They want to extend this repousse technique
(as it is called in French) not only in their jewelry but also in various
silver objects such as boxes, decor objects etc. |

Today, Salim sons create
their own designs. This stimulating process makes the whole silver creation
process much enjoyable and certainly profitable. Near 70% of the Salim
products are made for the USA market, the rest goes to Europe and to Indonesian
customers.

They hope that their efforts
to revive this "repousse" might be successful, because success
would mean that an old Javanese jewelry tradition would have survived.
And the survival of this traditional technique will open the door for many
up to date applications. |
